Homeless Outreach Prayer Requests 08.23.13

It’s a humbing honor to serve the streets of Hollywood each Friday, but it’s also a tremendous blessing to have witnessed so many people walk through Oasis’ doors because of it. The homeless population around our new building is such an opportunity to love people and to be a light to those who need Him most. If you have questions about how to chat with the people you meet at a service or what resources are available to them, please email us at Outreach@OasisLA.org or sign up for an Open Outreach with the Hollywood Street Team by clicking this link to RSVP.

1 John 3:16-18

16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

– Please pray for our friend Olivia and her 6yr old son, Gage. We met them last year while they were living on the Boulevard. She had found a job and housing, but the day before she was given keys, Child Services took Gage. 11 months later she walked through the doors of Oasis. This past Sunday we were able to pray with Olivia who is working as a home care provider and has visitation with Gage once a week. However, he is currently up for adoption because Olivia’s situation isn’t yet fully stable and she may lose custody of him. Please pray for God’s will in their lives, wisdom on the behalf of all looking to protect and care for Gage and love to surround them.

– “E” would like at least a year of sobriety from being an alcoholic. We prayed for him and will continue to pray for his sobriety walk.

– Jill wants prayer to succeed and to live free of the streets.

– “Dirty” is grateful for what he has and thanked us for the prayers.

– Jack wanted prayer that his arm would heal.

– Our friend Jose, who usually prays with and FOR us,  was yelling and told us to just walk past him. Please pray for intervention and that God breaks any chains taking a stronghold on him. We know he’s been struggling for months and misses his family. May God give him peace, comfort and warmth during this difficult time.

– Michael didn’t want anything. We haven’t seen him before and pray we get the chance to know him.

– Nan is interested in coming to Oasis and thanked us for chatting with her.

– We gave Zion food and he seemed in much better spirits this week.

– Please pray that Pat is encouraged in his family life and that he continues to learn of God’s faithfulness.

– We gave food to our buddy Jake. Please pray for his health and that he’s able to lose weight. Also that Hollywood continues its kindness streak. He thanks all of you for praying with and for him each week.

– Jada didn’t want anything, but was happy we said hello.

– Allen is an atheist but asked that we pray for his health! He was thankful for food and socks.

– Tahitian was sitting outside our church and hesitant to chat, but so thankful for socks.

– Iris, who we haven’t met before, approached our team and asked for socks.  We’re so thankful that other people are spreading the news  about our church, outreach, and the availability of Jesus’ love.

– Nathan was still wearing his prison jumpsuit when we met him. He was just released and has nothing. He was grateful for the socks and food we have him.

– We talked to Manuel who was sitting in front of a restaurant playing the gutair. He said he would come by our table every Friday and was so kind and grateful.

– Thank you, God, for the two men that came up to our team and said “see you Sunday!” It was such a welcome encouragement!

– Romania asked us to pray for dog food for his dog, Whoopie, but didn’t want prayer for himself since he’s Wickem! He took a bag and thanked us for being generous.

– Kiana and Chris came by and got some food and bags. Kiana is pregnant and we prayed for her protection and health. They were both very grateful.

– Suede with a Kangol hat and Bluetooth took some chips and water. He was curious what we were out here for and was grateful for the snacks and our service.

– Shemar, the little boy who dances on the street, came by with his friend for candy.

– Tall George that we see from time to time came by. He’s usually pretty incoherent, but praise God, we could understand him pretty well tonight. He took some pants and food.

– Our friend Giovanni came by for prayer and a tee shirt. He prayed for safe keeping and opportunity.

– Jenny from Vancouver came by and asked what church we were from. Shes took a card for her next visit and blessed us.

– Lorenzo came by for water and when asked if he wanted prayer he said “isn’t that what we’re supposed to do for one another?” Loved praying for him!

– Johnny came by and asked for water. He’s also a street dancer and needed to get back to performing, but please pray for his safety and health.

– Robert was grateful for water, but didn’t want to talk or pray.

– Sean, really sad and feeling like a “bum” – has lice, scabies, no clean clothes or hygiene items or food, but refused what we had. Please pray for hope and an open heart.

– “Green Tea” was very animated and looking for his friends, but so happy to see us. He put his new socks on immediately and had us lay hands on his back for healing while we prayed.

– Crash was thankful for the food we gave him and for stopping to chat.

– Lost Boy was quiet, but grateful for food and that we stopped to say hi.

– Ray was just released from prison and is looking for more trouble to get into. Please pray that his heart softens and his eyes start to see God in his life.

– Matt, who was playing his guitar, kept thanking us for being a blessing and for having socks.

– Leo recently had his stuff stolen and was so thankful for people who understood his struggle. He doesn’t want to be homeless or have people judge him and he’s thankful for people willing to talk to and help him.

– William was outside a store and declined food and prayer. Hopefully we get another chance to chat with him.
Thank you for praying with us, Oasis!
